Friday Night Cookie Party Prep

Tonight I baked 37 cookies for for the senior residents to participate in a fun weekend of cookie decorating parties! On Saturday I will do a cookie party at Bello Gardens Assisted Living, and on Sunday I will do one at Greenwood Assisted Living!

After planning many cookie decorating parties, I now have perfected my method. I know what ingredients to buy (and how to get them on sale!) so that I stay in the 25 dollar budget for both senior homes, and keep the receipts for reimbursement. In the beginning I was very nervous to ask for the reimbursement, but now I am completely comfortable and know exactly how to do it and who to ask. I have also learned that if when buying ingredients, I buy any personal/separate things at the store, that I should get a separate receipt for the personal items so that I can send them a receipt with only the items that I purchased for the facility. This makes it simpler for them to send me reimbursement.

For my friend Charlie - a senior resident with dementia at Bello Gardens who is unable to eat cookies - I started bringing hot chocolate or chocolate milk so that he can have a treat like everybody else. I always make sure that all of the residents (and volunteers!) feel included in the activities.
